SUPPORT THE TRAILS | Bayfield Area Trails
|
Bayfield Area Trails enhances community by connecting people with nature and each other.
|
|
Bayfield Area Trails works with community partners and volunteers to create and sustain quality trails on the Bayfield Peninsula in Wisconsin.
We promote connecting people with nature, healthy minds and spirits, public engagement, and resource stewardship. Donations will go to priority projects identified by the Bayfield Area Trails Committee as well as adding to our tool cache for field projects. Your investment will provide an outstanding legacy of outdoor recreation and enjoyment for area residents, our visitors, and future generations in northern Bayfield County. Recreation & Fitness Resources of Bayfield is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. They have graciously agreed to serve as Bayfield Area Trails fiscal agent. Your donation will process through their site and donations are tax deductible within applicable laws.

Why is our work so important?
|
Watch this short video to see one of our showcase trails. This hike on Bayfield's Big Ravine Trail takes you from the Meyers Olson trail head along the East Rim, down Pine Bluff, and on to the Gil Larson trail.
The views are stunning! Especially descending the Pine Bluff section of the trail. Pine Bluff was added to the system in 2020 thanks to donations and generous volunteers. With your generous support, we can continue to build and improve hiking trails on the Bayfield Peninsula. |

We need your help!

Your tax-deductible donation will help us complete important trail projects and strengthen Bayfield Area Trails' infrastructure. Some of our 2026 planned projects and priorities are listed below.

Salmo Trail Accessibility Project

Lake viewing area on the Salmo Lakewalk Trail.
|
Just look at that amazing view at the end of the Salmo Lakewalk Trail! We’re committed to making that view accessible to all!
We’ve raised over $65,000 for the materials and equipment needed for this project. Now, your donation will support hiring the Wisconsin Conservation Corps (WisCorps) to build 330 feet of elevated boardwalk leading to a new lakeview platform. Invest in the future! WisCorps' mission is to engage the next generation of environmental leaders through guided, hands-on, service opportunities that benefit our region’s public lands.

Additional Planned Projects for 2026

2025 Accomplishments2025 was another very busy year for Bayfield Area Trails! We continued work on the Economic Impact Study, completing 721 trail user surveys at 11 trailheads. The final report is coming out soon. We also continued work on the Bayfield Peninsula Long-Term Plan. 25 top priority trails have been identified. A draft plan will be available in early 2026.
Many great things have been happening on the trails as well! We co-hosted 4 guided bird hikes with the Chequamegon Audubon Society. Thanks to 2025 donations, we developed a cache of trail tools crew members can access when needed. Several trail improvement projects were also completed including:
